Mumbai Rains to be Back After 2 Days of Lull |
Rains/ thunderstorms didn't show their presence yesterday as the weather conditions were not conducive. Northeasterly dry winds were prevailing over the region. These winds are dry in nature as they flow from the landmass. This resulted in less humidity in the atmosphere paving the way for clear skies and hot weather conditions. Such type of weather conditions leads to crystal-clear visibility. Today, the 16th of October will be dry but the humidity will be more than yesterday as winds have turned easterly carrying moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
Tomorrow onwards, the thunderstorms will make a comeback in Mumbai and are likely to stay for 3-4 days. A cyclonic circulation is likely to form off Raigad, Ratnagiri coast extending till 700hpa(3km) atmospheric level. This will bring moist air to Mumbai regions along with the convergence of winds. This will create convective clouds and entire Mumbai regions will get rains/thunderstorms between the 17th-20th.
Most of the time, thunderstorms form in the afternoon in interiors and move to the coastal region by evening/night time. The ideal time could be evening and night for the thunderstorms to form. Overhead pop-up of thunderstorms in coastal regions is also very likely as there will be a weather system in the sea.
