In the last month, The first named storm of the season, tropical storm Ana wreaked havoc on the east coast of Madagascar. Strong winds and floods killed more than 40 people. Thousands of people lost their houses.

The second cyclone of the season, Intense tropical cyclone Batsirai is churning at an average speed of 165 kmph (90knots) and gusts with 235 kmph (127 knots) in the open ocean, moving southwest at speed of 7 kmph, slowly approaching the east-central coast of Madagascar. Cloudy conditions are already observed in the eastern part of the country. It is the outer part of the storm. The weather is expected to deteriorate from tomorrow.

According to the official met department, Cyclone Batsirai is expected to make landfall between Vatomandry & Mananjary on the morning of Feb 5th, between 08 and 12 local hours. Devastating winds over 155 kmph (85knots ), extreme rains, and storm surges are predicted during the time of impact. East, south-east, and central highlands are expected to bear the maximum effect. These areas could see widespread flooding due to the high accumulation of rains. The fishermen are warned to stay away from the sea until all the dangers are eliminated.

According to the officials, The cyclone Batsirai is more destructive than the cyclone Ana. It could cause thousands of people to lose their houses, and lakhs of people might be badly affected.
