India:

The India Meteorological Department(IMD) released new normal dates of onset and withdrawal of the southwest monsoon season over India based on the recent data. Previous normal dates were based on the records of few stations (149 stations) during the years 1901-1940. The new normal onset dates are changed based on the records from 1961- 2019 and the new normal dates of withdrawal are revised based on records from 1971-2019.

Important changes in the normal dates are stated below:
  1. The normal onset dates over the states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and parts of U.P is delayed by 3-7 days.
  2. The normal onset of monsoon over extreme northwestern India is now on 8th July, 7 days earlier in contrast to the previous normal dates.
  3. The monsoon withdrawal from northwest India is now significantly delayed by almost 7-14 days, monsoon withdrawal from central India is also delayed by a few days.
  4. The Normal date of onset and withdrawal over India i.e 1st June and 15th October respectively remain the same.
