Mumbai: Typical Heavy Mumbai Rains Drenched City Midnight, Vasai-Virar Choked.



Mumbai(Colaba): The very heavy rain show begun at midnight in south Mumbai and it was a thumping start as the Colaba city received more than 174 mm rain in just 6 hours, Its huge amount of rain in such small time period. As a result, Waterlogging and traffic jams were seen in many south Mumbai regions, but it eased out in the forenoon hours of today as only moderate  rains were seen after 8:30am hrs of today.

Mumbai(Santacruz): The intensity of rains compared to Colaba was less. There were no reports of waterlogging and traffic jams till 8:30 am hrs of today. However, it recorded rains in the heavy rain category.

Vasai-Virar: Past 6-7 days the vasaikar's were missing the typical heavy Vasai rains, as the days were hot and humid which resulted in uncomfortable weather conditions, the temperature for the past few days were recorded in higher 30s which is very rare during south-west monsoon season. But finally, the Vasai rain made a thumping comeback past midnight, where it rained continuously without any break. Waterlogging and traffic jams were seen in many places and that’s not the end it rained continuously throughout the day, the rains were relentless and merciless.

Maharashtra State Monsoon Report as on 20th July 2019


Evening Post:
From 8:30 Hrs of yesterday to 8:30 Hrs of Today, south Konkan & Goa region received Moderate rains, North Konkan region was mostly dry with few places receiving light rain. which resulted in deficient rain to the tune of 16.2mm against the normal of 28.9mm i.e (-44%), The Marathawada subdivision recorded a very good spell of rain after a long time. Heavy rains very witnessed at isolated places, It recorded rains in excess category (+156) 12.8mm against normal of  5 mm. Madhya Maharashtra subdivision also received rains in excess category (+59%) 11.8 mm against the normal of 7.4mm. The Vidarbha Subdivision recorded Light to moderate rains at few places but it could not math its normal rains which were 10.7mm it received only 5.5mm rains. The Maharashtra state as a whole recorded 10.2mm of rain against the normal of 10mm on 20th July 2019 which 2% more than normal.

The Maharashtra state receives about 414.7mm of rain from 1st June 2019 to 20th July 2019, but this monsoon season till now the state has received about 377.0mm of rain which is -9% below normal and comes under a normal category. Now already the rainfall activity has begun with marathawada and Madhya Maharashtra receiving above normal rains yesterday and it will go on for at least the next 3-4 days.

Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Lat. 25°N/Long. 60°E, Lat. 25°N/Long. 65°E, Barmer, Jodhpur, Churu, Ferozpur, and Lat. 31°N/Long. 74.5°E.

Rainfall Forecast:
Today 16th July, Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in Punjab, Haryana, North U.P, Northern Bihar, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, south Konkan & Goa, and northeastern states. Light to Moderate rainfall likely in Odisha, Tamilnadu, Jharkhand, H.P, Uttarakhand, A.P and South interior Karnataka. Dry weather with Isolated light rains likely in Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Marathawada and west M.P

All India Monsoon Season Rainfall Status as of Today:
Presently the seasonal Monsoon trough lies close to the foothills of Himalayas due to which the weather over central India has gone dry with only isolated places receiving light to moderate rains. As the trough was persisting over foothills of the Himalayas the U.P, Bihar along with the whole Northeastern India recorded Heavy to very heavy rains for many days with isolated places Receiving extreme heavy rains. The well-marked low-pressure area also had a huge impact over this area giving torrential rain. Now the rain intensity has come down marginally as the above system has dissipated. Due to this torrential rains the rainfall deficiency  of East and Northeast India has fallen down dramatically which is now seen in the normal category. From 1st June 2019 to 16th July 2019, Our country has recorded 265.9 mm of rains against the normal of 308.4 mm of rains which have resulted in countrywide deficiency to the tune of 14%.

Monsoon Report of Maharashtra State as on 12th July 2019


Night Post:
Yesterday, South Konkan & Goa region received heavy to very heavy rains which resulted in large excess rain to the tune of 64.3mm against the normal of 29mm i.e (122%), The Marathawada and Madhya Maharashtra subdivision also received rains in Large excess category about 93% and 83% respectively. The Vidarbha Subdivision recorded almost no rains only isolated pockets received very light rain making it large deficient to the tune of -93% on 12th July 2019. The Maharashtra state as a whole recorded 11.7mm of rain against the normal of 9.7mm on 12th July 2019 which 21% more than normal.

The Maharashtra state receives about 332.9mm of rain from 1st June 2019 to 12th July 2019, but this monsoon season till now the state has received about 338.8mm of rain which is surplus by 2% and comes under the normal category. The reason for such recovery is due to continuous rains for last many days(particularly the Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra Subdivision).

Maharashtra State Monsoon Report As on 8th July 2019

Morning Post:
For the last many days, Maharashtra state has been receiving good amounts of rain(especially Konkan & Goa and Madhya-Maharashtra are receiving hefty rains). The reason for such ongoing good rains is that there lie multiple weather systems in close vicinity of the state. First, one being the active offshore trough, 2nd UAC over the South Gujarat region and adjoining areas. Also, strong south-westerlies are prevailing over the Konkan coast. Due to the combined effect of these systems Konkan region and adjoining the Madhya-Maharashtra region is receiving hefty rains.

Rainfall Figure for Maharashtra State from 1st June 2019 to 8th July 2019:
The Maharashtra state receives about 292.2mm of rain from 1st June 2019 to 8th July 2019, but this monsoon season till now the state has received about 282.9 mm of rain which comes under the normal category. The reason for such recovery is due to continuous rains for the last many days.
